The 71-year-old Hall of Famer and Asia’s first GM came out of retirement and finished undefeated in the nine-game standard tournament with nine points.
He opened his campaign with victories over William Gunn and Daniel Combs in the first two rounds, before dominating his next opponents in Cyle Sarmiento, Rudolph Soriano, Kohei Yonemitsu, Daniel Doria, Elmer Prudente, Kyle Garrison and Rogelio Orio.
“This victory is for my countryman,” said Torre.
