The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Field Office I (DSWD-FO1) has so far provided P144 million in food and non-food items, as well as P104 million in cash assistance, to families displaced by typhoon Egay and the enhanced southwest monsoon, or “habagat.”
Family food packs, bottled water, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, and kitchen kits were among the food and non-food items distributed.
Meanwhile, the cash aid was provided through the DSWD’s Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) and Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS).
“A total of 5,349 beneficiaries from various towns in Ilocos Norte have received cash aid under ECT, while 14,830 individuals benefited from AICS,” DSWD-FO1 Regional Director Marie Angela Gopalan said.
DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez assured displaced families that assistance will be provided until they have fully recovered from the effects of the series of weather disturbances.
“We will assist the families on their way to recovery in keeping with the marching order of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr that no disaster-affected families should go hungry,” Lopez said.
To date, the DSWD-FO1, in collaboration with concerned local government units (LGUs), has continued to assist 835 families or 2,992 people staying in 44 evacuation centers in the Ilocos Region.
Likewise, relief assistance was provided to 420 families or 1,971 individuals outside of evacuation centers.
The DSWD-FO1 prepositioned an additional 10,500 food packs sent by the National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau in its satellite warehouse in Lingayen, Pangasinan, to supplement its resources for ongoing relief distribution in the region.
