Around 200 MNLF, MILF members now in 'clean list' for PNP recruitment

Around 200 members of two former secessionist groups in Mindanao have passed the physical and medical examinations conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) as part of the integration process in the regional police force at the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said the 200 former members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) were able to pass the neuro, physical and medical examinations that are all part of the police recruitment process.

 “”Right now, there are around 200 of them who are included in what we call as clean list which means that already passed all the examinations being conducted in our recruitment process,” said Fajardo.

The 200 former MILF and MNLF fighters were among the 1,000 passers of the special eligibility examinations as part of the integration process following the signing of a peace agreement under the past administration.

More than 10,000 MILF and MNLF members took the written exams last year. 

The PNP earlier allocated 400 slots for the MILF and MNLF integrees, all of them will be assigned at the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region. 

But Fajardo was quick to clarify that the 200 MNLF and MILF members will still be subjected to background investigation before they would be subjected to the final phase of the recruitment process.

“The complete background investigation is still ongoing so even if you were already included in the clean list, this is not enough since the PNP will still find out if they have derogatory record which is a ground for a disqualification in the recruitment process,” said Fajardo.

And since the 400 slots allocated for PRO-BAR was not filled up, Fajardo said the regional office will initiate moves to complete the quota in the future recruitment process.

Fajardo also emphasized that the PNP does not see any risk in integrating MILF and MNLF members in the police force.

“The intention really is for them to serve the BARMM in order for them to be empowered which means that the cooperation and genuine concern for all the people of the BARMM will come from them,” said Fajardo.
