Taguig honors PH women’s national football team with motorcade, fan meet


The Taguig City government welcomed the Philippine women’s national football team after they made history by scoring their first goal and win at the FIFA Women’s World Cup on July 25. 

The city government held a motorcade and a meet and greet for the women’s football team at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig last Aug. 5. The motorcade went around High Street and Uptown in BGC. The athletes shared their team jerseys with people waiting for them.

Mayor Lani Cayetano, Vice Mayor Arvin Alit, and councilors welcomed the team at Market! Market! mall . A program and press conference was held at the event. 

“Keep dreaming. Keep believing. Trust the process and trust God. And most importantly, have fun with it,” said team defender Sofia Harrison. 

“This year marks many significant milestones for Filipinas, the Philippines women's national football team, as they made their debut on FIFA Women's World Cup!” said the mayor in a Facebook post on Aug. 7. 

She added, “When Sarina Bolden scored a header goal on July 25,2023 V5 New Zealand, Filipinas forever etched their name on HERstory. It secured the country's first goal and first win on the prestigious World Cup.” 

“We are one with the entire country in celebrating this remarkable feat. We are beyond proud of their achievements and are looking forward to what's in store in the future for these trailblazers in women's sports,” she said. 

Senator Pia Cayetano, who went to New Zealand to cheer the Philippine team, was also present at the event.
