Having almost the same looks and demeanor on the gymnastics floor as the two-time world champion, it was inevitable for 15-year-old Eldrew to be compared to his ‘kuya’ although he is eager to be recognized using his own talents and not just the brother to Carlos.
I’m making my own name,” said the younger Yulo.
Eldrew did seem to be brimming with potential of becoming one of the country’s elite athletes in the future especially after sweeping the six gold medals in the boys secondary artistic gymnastics in the recent 2023 Palarong Pambansa.
He also instantly became a star with some of his fellow athletes and spectators asking for pictures with him after his flawless performances in the apparatus finals in the high bar, vault, pommel horse and floor exercise.
Of course, the younger Yulo is already used to the spotlight, having participated in a couple of international tournaments. He even won a silver medal in vault in the Asian Junior Championships last June.
Knowing that making a name for himself would be easier said than done, Eldrew's focus for now is to further hone his talents and be the best version of himself as he also hopes to win more international competitions just like his big brother.
As early as now, the younger Yulo and his trainer are already looking forward to prepare for the World Junior Championships set next year.
