ILOILO CITY – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) detained a passenger boat after a man jumped overboard while the vessel was transiting the Iloilo Gulf last week.

PCG-Iloilo commander Paterno Belarmino has issued a notice of detention to the owner of the Shady Slezh 2 which passenger Ronnie Elgario rode on Friday, August 4.
Shady Slezh 2 was on its way to the island-province of Guimaras from this city when he jumped off.
Elgario was not listed on the passenger’s manifest and was only identified by family members when a video of the incident circulated online.
Boat crew tried to rescue Elgario by throwing a life buoy but swam away from the boat.
The PCG-Iloilo mounted a search and rescue operation but Elgario has not yet turned up as of posting time.
Iloilo Strait is the body of water separating Iloilo City and Guimaras.
