VP Duterte seeks P2.37B budget; includes P500M intel funds

Vice President Sara Duterte proposed a P2.37-billion budget for the Office of the Vice President (OVP) in 2024, including a P500-million confidential and intelligence fund (CIF), the Department of Budget and Management’s (DBM) proposed 2024 National Expenditure Program (NEP) showed.

According to the 2024 NEP, which was uploaded on DBM’s official website, the proposed P2,374,019,000 OVP budget is P30 million higher than its 2022 budget of P2,343,891,00.

Included also in the proposed P2.37-billion budget is some P500 million allocation as intelligence funds. Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said.

The proposed budget includes P181,325,000 for personnel services, P2,151,444,000 for maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE), and P41,250,000 for capital outlays.

The CIF will fall under the OVP’s MOOE.

If Congress approves the OVP’s proposed budget for 2024, it would be four times the budget of the office under former vice president Leni Robredo’s second term.

In 2018, Robredo’s approved budget was P543,946,000, data from the DBM showed.

Aside from the OVP’s budget, Duterte would also manage the Department of Education’s (DepEd) proposed 2024 budget of P714,163,419,000, the highest allocation in the national budget as mandated by the 1987 Constitution.

DepEd will also get P150 million in CIFs.

Earlier, the DBM said that the Office of the President (OP) will get the lion’s share of the P9.2-billion confidential fund for 2024 as it is set to receive P4.5 billion, while P500 million will go to the OVP, P1.7 billion to the Department of National Defense (DND), and P150 million to DepEd.
