- In its latest bulletin, Phivolcs monitored the 248 LFVQs, including 124 tremors that lasted one to 18 minutes. This is lower than the 272 recorded LFVQs, including 10 tremor events, having a duration of one to four minutes on Aug. 4.
- Since Mayon showed "intensified unrest or magmatic unrest," in which "hazardous eruption within weeks or even days could still be possible," Phivolcs recommended that the Alert Level 3 status stays.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Saturday, Aug. 5, reported fewer low-frequency volcanic earthquakes (LFVQ) at Mayon Volcano in Albay City.

Meanwhile, the volcano showed a slow effusion of lava flows from the crater with lengths of 2.8 kilometers (km) in Mi-is (south), 3.4 km in Bonga (southeastern), 600 meters (m) in Basud Gullies, and four km of lava collapse from the crater.
Furthermore, Phivolcs monitored 112 rockfall and five pyroclastic density currents (PDC) events as well as the production of 1602 tonnes of sulfur dioxide per day.
Alert level 3 stays
Since Mayon showed “intensified unrest or magmatic unrest,” in which “hazardous eruption within weeks or even days could still be possible,” Phivolcs recommended that the Alert Level 3 status stays.
It means that entering into a six-km radius permanent danger zone (PDZ) and flying any aircraft close to the volcano are still prohibited.
The said volcanic activities may result in rockfalls, landslides, avalanches; ballistic fragments; lava flows and lava fountaining; pyroclastic density currents; moderate-sized explosions; and lahars during heavy and prolonged rainfall. (Sonny Daanoy)
