Around 100 houses were gutted in a fire that hit Barangay 650, Intramuros, Manila, on Saturday afternoon, August 5.
The Manila Police District (MPD) and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire started on the third floor of a three-story house on 12th Street Tamburong.
The blaze quickly spread as most houses were made of light materials.
The BFP said the fire displaced 200 families.
The first alarm was raised at 4:57 p.m. and the second alarm at 4:58 p.m.
The fire escalated to the third alarm at 5:07 p.m. and fourth alarm at 5:16 p.m.
It was declared under control at 8:13 p.m.
The firefighters said it took them another hour before they were able to extinguish the fire at 9:49 p.m.
They said the incident left P100,000 worth of damage.
Police noted that no casualties were reported.
According to the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW), the affected residents refused to leave their damaged houses.
The city government said the MDSW will issue financial funds to assist the fire victims.
Authorities are still investigating the origin of the fire.
