Taguig LGU opens Center for Disaster Management

The Taguig City government opened on Aug. 3 the Center for Disaster Management building in Barangay Central Signal for disaster and emergency response.

Mayor Lani Cayetano led the inauguration of the five-story facility that will serve as a hub in coordinating emergency efforts and venue for the training and seminars for city personnel on disaster management and response.

“Isang pasilidad na naglalaman ng mga equipment, mga sasakyan na magbibigay po ng agarang responde sa mga residente in the event of disaster, calamity, or emergency (A facility that contains equipment, vehicles that will provide immediate response to residents in the event of disaster, calamity  or emergency),” the mayor said.

The building also houses the TOWER or Taguig Open Weather & Environmental Reporting System and other government offices. During calamities, it will serve as an evacuation center.

It has a specialized training room, open to individuals seeking to acquire fundamental disaster management skills. The room has state-of-the-art facilities and essential equipment, allowing first responders and rescuers to respond effectively to emergencies.

A court is located on the fifth floor, which can be used for basketball, volleyball, badminton, and other indoor sports.

Since January, a total of 17,000 individuals from various barangays, private agencies, employees, schools and corporations in Taguig have been trained in standard first aid.

The construction of the center was made possible during the mayor’s term as Taguig’s second district representative with the support of then-speaker and now Senator Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.
