Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) rescued a man who climbed an electric post in Intramuros, Manila on Friday night, August 4.

The BFP-Special Rescue Unit (SRU) saved the man identified as Jessie "Jess" Pontipedra, 42, after several hours of convincing him to go down.

Prior to his rescue, Pontipedra reportedly climbed the neighbor's roof at around 5 p.m.

The SRU team said the man was still on the roof when they arrived at around 6:40 p.m.

While they were convincing Pontipedra to go down, another man suddenly went to the roof without telling the authorities.

The duo fought on the roof.

The man then chased Pontipedra, prompting the latter to climb the electric post nearby.

Linemen from the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) arrived at the scene at 7 p.m. and shut down the power at the post.

Authorities managed to climb to the post and safely brought Pontipedra down at 11:30 p.m.

Some of the residents said Pontipedra is suffering from depression because his wife left him.

He was brought to the police station for further investigation.
