Heritage, culinary tour soon to open in Pasig City

As part of the local government's initiatives to develop Pasigueños' sense of historical and cultural identity and promote the rich heritage of Pasig, a heritage and culinary tour will soon be open to the public.

The Pasig Heritage and Culinary Tour will expose residents and local and foreign tourists to the vast and vibrant history of the city, encompassing its humble roots, significance in the Philippine revolutionary wars, and future trajectory as a major urban city in the metro.

As the tour remains a part of the city's year-long celebrations for Pasig's 450th anniversary this year, it aims to educate and inform the public on the importance of recognizing Pasig's historical foundations.

The tour will center on the built heritage that can be seen at the Poblacion area or city center.

Some of the areas that tour participants would be able to visit are the Gabaldon Building of the Pasig Central Elementary School, Valentin Cruz Statue, Bitukang Manok (Parian Creek), Museo Diocesano, Colegio del Buenconsejo, Plaza Rizal, Concepcion Mansion, and Bahay na Tisa.

By the Gabaldon Building, visitors can see the Valentin Cruz Statue via San Nicolas, Bitukang Manok via Dimanlig Street, Plaza Familia and Plaza Rizal.

At the Pasig City Learning Resource Center Grounds, tourists will be shown the World War II Monument, Lope K. Santos, and Bantayog ng Wika.

Aside from history, guests will also be able to eat the famous local delicacies offered by local restaurants such as Aging's Food Delight, that sells a wide variety of kakanin (rice cakes), famously known as "suman espesyal" and other treats; and Ado's Panciteria that serves delicious selections of pancit, especially the pancit with chicharon.

The tour was organized and led by the Office of the City Mayor (OCM) and Cultural Affairs and Tourism Office (CATO), in cooperation with Kabataang Tambuli ng Pasig.

A maiden tour was held last July 23, joined by Councilors Corazon Raymundo and Quin Cruz, along with some officials from the local government offices and departments.

"We are so rich in heritage and culture. Our youth should be able to experience and appreciate their heritage," read Raymundo's social media post.

The city's Public Information Office (PIO) said the date when the tour officially opens will be announced soon.
