A family in Calumpit, Bulacan, in a desperate bid to protect their service utility vehicle (SUV) from raging floodwaters, decided to wrap it up in canvass, but it ended up floating in their garage like a sailboat.

While some residents were able to bring their vehicles to higher grounds, the Halili family decided to wrap their SUV in canvas to prevent the floodwaters from seeping into the vehicle.

But when the floodwaters started to rise, so did the SUV.

The Halili family immediately sought for help from their neighbors. The floating SUV had since become viral on social media.

Aside from the high tide and back floods from Pampanga and  Nueva Ecija, local authorities also said the rising floodwaters were caused by the opening of the gates and the releasing of water from the Bustos Dam.

As of 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 4, the water level of Angat Dam was 198.95 meters (normal high water level is 212.00 meters); Ipo Dam 101.98 meters (spilling level is at 101.00 meters), and Bustos Dam  at 16.67 meters which is below its spilling level of 17:00 meters.

Governor Daniel R. Fernando is appealing to the contractors of Bustos Dam to immediately finish the repair works being done in the dam.
