CEBU CITY – The two suspects in the killing of a 19-year-old woman from Panabo City, Davao del Norte have undergone DNA (deoxyribonucleic) testing.
Police said subjecting Simeon Gabutero, 22, and Roberto Gabison, 41, to forensic examination will help solve the killing of Rhea Mae Tocmo.
Tocmo’s body was found stuffed in a cardboard box and dumped by the road in Barangay Tisa here on July 17.
“We know scientific evidence cannot be questioned. That’s the trajectory of the case now. Once we file the case, we want to make sure that we are in the right direction so the forensics would confirm the evidence that we have gathered,” said Police Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas.
Gabutero was arrested for illegal possession of firearms and was found to be the person who sold the missing cell phone of Tocmo.
Gabutero pointed to Gabison as the one who instructed him to sell the cell phone.
He denied Gabutero’s accusations. He also denied that he knew Gabutero and Tocmo.
Pelare assured the public that investigators are inching closer to solving the case.
He called on persons who may have a knowledge in the crime to come forward for the speedy resolution of the case.
“We understand the sentiments of the public, we want this case solved because this is a different case, a very heinous crime. Our appeal is to let the investigators do their thing and give them enough time so that we can file an airtight case and ensure the conviction of the culprits,” said Pelare.
