The Taguig City government started on Aug. 31 the distribution of birthday cash gifts to senior citizens in the 10 embo (enlisted men's barrio) barangays that were transferred to its jurisdiction based on a Supreme Court order.
More than 270 senior citizens in the 10 barangays are celebrating their birthdays in August. The barangays transferred to Taguig are Cembo, Comembo, East Rembo, Pembo, Pitogo, Post Proper Northside, Post Proper Southside, Rizal, South Cembo and West Rembo.

The program provides senior citizens with cash gifts depending on their age bracket. P3,000 is given to those who are 60 to 69 years old, P4,000 to 70 to 79 years old, P5,000 to 80 to 89 years old, and P10,000 to 90 to 99 years old.
A senior citizen reaching 100 will receive P100,000 and will continue to get it every year.
Mayor Lani Cayetano personally gave the cash gifts to senior citizens during a kickoff ceremony in Barangay Pembo.
The city government also opened a one-stop shop volunteer center on Sampaguita Street in Barangay Pembo where those who are not included in the initial list of senior citizen beneficiaries can go and have themselves listed and verified for their birthday cash gift.
The one-stop shop is also open for inquiries and applications of social services like medical assistance, burial assistance, benefits for persons with disabilities, and scholarship.
