Negros Occidental logs P120-M damage from ‘Goring,’ ‘habagat’


BACOLOD CITY – Negros Occidental sustained P120,824,933.71 in damage to agriculture, fisheries, and livestock due to typhoon “Goring” and the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”

Thirteen areas recorded P116,808,553.71 in damage to rice, corn, and high-value commercial crops, affecting 2,888 farmers.

A total of 3,357.34 hectares in 67 barangays were affected.

Two fisherfolk logged P1,447,000 in damage in two barangays covering 44 hectares while P2,569,380 damage to livestock was reported in nine areas, affecting 77 households.

Heavy rains affected 30,917 families or 100,337 individuals from 140 barangays in 16 areas.

Five areas were flooded while three landslide incidents occurred in the province. No casualties were reported.

A total of 94 houses were damaged, including 24 totally damaged and 67 partially damaged.

No damage was reported in irrigation, machineries, and agri-infra in the province.
