Comelec extends COC filing in Metro Manila, 2 provinces to Sept. 3

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Thursday, Aug. 31, that it has extended the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to Sunday, Sept. 3 due to the inclement weather.

According to Comelec, the extension will be in the National Capital Region (NCR), and the Provinces of Abra and Ilocos Norte, which will be until 5 p.m. on Sept. 3, Sunday.
Comelec earlier canceled work in all of its offices in Metro Manila due to severe rains and flooding, suspending also the filing of COCs.
Meanwhile, based on Comelec's data, 767,064 have already filed their COCs as of 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 31. Majority of the candidates are male at 506,440 or 66.02 percent while the rest are female at 260,624 or 33.98 percent.
The data provided by the poll body also showed that 58,602 are aspiring to be Punong Barangay while 421,365 have filed for the position of member of the Sangguniang Barangay.
On the other hand, 46,921 are gunning to be chairperson of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) while 240,176 aim to be members of the SK.
Except for the areas mentioned, the filing of COCs will be up to Sept. 2, Saturday.
