Choose your barangay leaders wisely – Mayor Honey

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan called on Manileños to choose their barangay leaders wisely and make sure they are worthy of their votes.

On Wednesday, Aug. 31, Lacuna-Pangan urged voters to take into consideration the profile of the candidates.

Lacuna made the call as the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) began last Monday.

According to the mayor, the role of barangay leaders is crucial as they serve as the "go-between persons" of the local government.

Although the city government deals directly with its constituents through its program "Kalinga sa Maynila", she said the barangay leaders are there to connect the grassroots level to various departments and offices of the local government.

The local chief executive stressed that through the barangay authorities, the city government learns what the residents really need and want, especially free and basic services.

It is also through the barangays that the administration is able to announce and communicate its programs, new regulations, and activities to the locals.

She assured them that her administration will be persistent within its mandate to help the barangays achieve their purpose and help their constituents to the fullest.
