South Sudan's shifty guard Sunday Dech is looking forward to reuniting with Gilas Pilipinas big man Kai Sotto.

Dech, who played alongside Sotto for the Adelaide 36ers in the National Basketball League in Australia, expressed his excitement in facing one of his closest friends during Filipino's stint in the Land Down Under.
“We talked about earlier today, facing him will be great again, obviously were teammates for two years in Adelaide [36ers], he’s one of my closest friend now but we kindly battling out tomorrow and see who’s the better team,” Dech said after their big loss against Serbia, 83-115, in tge 2023 FIBA World Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
Despite the defeat, the 6-foot-5 guard was all smiles and evidently locked in for Thursday's classification match set at 8 p.m.
“I’m looking forward to that, but obviously it will be a bitter one tonight, we can’t get the job done. But now we’re [going to] regroup and take the learning for today, and I’m looking forward to play with Kai [Sotto] and Gilas tomorrow,”
“We’re still waiting for the second result at the end of the day,” he added.
South Sudan arranged its showdown against Gilas after Puerto Rico ripped apart China, 107-89.
The FIBA World Cup African Qualifiers MVP said that he was having a great experience so far in the country.
“It’s been phenomenal, [the] Philippines is beautiful, I’ll definitely come back on holiday one time,” he said.
