P45-M housing project for ‘Odette’ victims to rise in Siargao


GENERAL LUNA, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte – This town recently held the groundbreaking ceremony for the P45-million Silongan housing project for victims of typhoon ‘Odette” in Purok 5, Barangay Poblacion, here, funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH-13 Director Engr. Pol M. delos Santos said the project is funded by the agency’s Quick Response Fund and DPWH-Surigao del Norte First District Engineering Office District Engineer Annie S. dela Vega will supervise ground operations.

“The ground work will now start,” Delos Santos said, adding that at least 50 housing units will initially be constructed.

Surigao del Norte Rep. Francisco Jose “Bingo” Matugas II facilitated the follow-up and release of funding for the project.

Mayor Mayor Sol F. Matugas here said the project is a symbol of their concern for residents affected by Odette in 2021.

“With the full support and concern of line agencies of the government and private stakeholders, we will help them rise by providing their families decent housing units,” said Matugas, a former governor of Surigao del Norte.

“We will rise again.” 

This town considered the country’s surfing capital and tourism hub in the Caraga region sustained more than P1 billion in damage from the howler.

Many tourism-related facilities, houses, and other infrastructure were lost due to Odette.
