The University of the Philippines (UP) has tapped former Ateneo volleyball coach Oliver Almadro as its volleyball program director.

“I’m honored of this opportunity. I'm aware that it'll be hard, but it's actually easy to trust in the process because of all those who believe in me," said Almadro.
He will be working side-by-side with UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development director Bo Perasol.
"We believe that Coach O will bring the UP volleyball program to greater heights. He has the experience of building championship teams and he will have a helping hand in the form of our new sponsor for our volleyball program," said Perasol, who also thanked Far Fresh Dairy’s full-time support.
"We give the biggest thanks to Farm Fresh Dairy for joining us in this new era for UP volleyball,” he added.
Part of Almadro’s task is to select the new coaches that will fill in the shoes of Shaq Delos Santos (women’s) and Rald Ricafort (men’s) for the upcoming UAAP Season 86.
Despite his new assignment, Almadro will remain head of volleyball operations for the Petro Gazz Angels in the Premier Volleyball League and coach of the Letran women’s volleyball team in the NCAA.
With UP, he faces a tall order architecting yet another rebuild for women's and men's teams that both last won it all back in the early '80s. Rising tower Nina Ytang will stand as the pillar for the women, while energizer Louis Gamban will be the key player for the men.
