Marcos remembers broadcasting 'pillar' Mike Enriquez

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has extended his condolences to the family and friends of veteran broadcaster Mike Enriquez, who passed away at the age of 71 on Aug. 29.

“Our heartfelt thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this time,” Marcos wrote in his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday morning, Aug. 30.
According to Marcos, he was saddened to hear about the death of Enriquez. He described him as a pillar in the journalism profession who delivered unbiased news.
“We are saddened by news of the passing of veteran anchor Mike Enriquez, a pillar in our broadcasting industry,” he said.
“He dedicated his life to delivering unbiased news to the Filipino people. Our heartfelt thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this time,” he added.
Enriquez’s passing was confirmed by GMA Network via its flagship newscast “24 Oras” on Tuesday evening. The cause of his death was not revealed.
In a Facebook post, GMA’s AM radio arm, Super Radyo DZBB, said Enriquez took a medical leave in December 2021 to undergo a kidney transplant and returned to work in March 2022 for GMA's election coverage.
In 2018, he also took a medical leave to undergo a heart bypass and get treated for kidney disease.
Enriquez started his broadcast career in 1969 and joined GMA in 1995. He anchored “24 Oras” for almost 20 years with fellow broadcasting icon Mel Tiangco.
He also hosted GMA’s long-running public affairs program “Imbestigador.”
