LTFRB grants franchise to over 4,000 school service vehicles
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has granted franchise for the operation of a total of 4,202 school service vehicles in various parts of the country as the opening of the classes for both private and public schools started on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
LTFRB chairman Teofilo Guadiz III said that of the 4,202 four-wheeled school services granted with franchise, a total of 3,090 of them are in the National Capital Region.
But before the granting of the franchise, Guadiz said a thorough inspection was conducted to ensure the road worthiness of the school services.
Part of the inspection is to check if the school services have proper markings, with seat belts, fire extinguisher, first-aid kit, and a Stop-and-Go sign for the student-passengers alighting the vehicles.
Guadiz said the inspection of school services will continue and will be done in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Land Transportation Office.
“We will also be deploying our enforcement units in the vicinity of the schools to assist in road safety measures,” said Guadiz.
