TACLOBAN CITY – A leaf artist from Samar paid tribute to Mike Enriquez by making a leaf portrait of the late veteran broadcast journalist.
"Paalam para sa isa sa mga haligi ng industriya ng mamamahayag, Sir Mike (Farewell to one of the pillars of broadcast journalism, Sir Mike)," Joneil Severino wrote on Facebook.
Enriquez, who passed away Tuesday, August 29, was one of the anchors of "24 Oras," GMA's primetime evening newscast, “Super Balita sa Umaga,” and “Saksi sa Dobol B” on radio DZBB.
He had also hosted public affairs program “Imbestigador.”
Enriquez was president of RGMA Network Inc., senior vice president of GMA Network, and consultant for radio operations.
Severino's eagerness to help his family with their daily needs and support his education during the pandemic inspired him to innovate and use his talent by accepting commissioned portraits by using giant taro leaves, matches, and charcoal from their cooking pans.
He said his efforts show that poverty is not a hindrance to achieving one's dreams.
