Among those who has been showing promise are National Master Al-Basher Buto, Christian Mendoza, Jeremy Marticio, Pat Ferdolf Rubiano Macabulos, Muelle Ymber, Chester Acuyong and Art Joe Capatan.
The 13-year-old Buto led a 1-2-3 finish for the King’s Gambiteers after copping the ACCLCCC 2100 and below Open rapid tournament held recently in Antipolo. Karlycris Clarito Jr. and Jian Carlo Alberto bagged silver and bronze medals.
Mendoza, for his part, clinched the runner-up honors in an U16 Individual Rapid event in Merdeka, Malaysia after finishing with 7.5 points in nine games.
Marticio also settled for silver in the Jomar Pascua Chess Cup, while Macabulos ruled the San Simon Club Kiddies Rapid tournament.
Ymber, meanwhile, finished tied for second in an U20 Mixed Boys and Girls Rapid event in Iloilo, while Chester Acuyong claimed U20 crown while finishing at joint ninth in the Open section.
Capatan, 7, on the other hand, topped the Open Section Rapid and Blitz tournaments in Mindanao.
Villaseran aims to produce national age group champions and eventually future national team members.
