ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released an initial P1 million in aid for flood victims and others displaced by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” enhanced by typhoon “Goring” in Western Visayas.

DSWD-6 Director Carmelo Nochete said this consisted of food and non-food items distributed to families in Antique, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.
“The DSWD Field Office 6 continues in responding to the needs of the affected families. Prior this, we have already placed goods in strategic locations so that the goods can reach the people at the shortest time possible,” said Nochete in a statement.
Negros Occidental received the biggest chunk of relief items worth P560,316 for victims in the capital of Bacolod City as well as the component city of Himamaylan.
Iloilo received P431,399 in relief items for Guimbal, Oton, and Pavia; and Antique, P103,412, for Valderrama.
DSWD-6 assured that local government units (LGUs) that need food packs and non-food items will get the aid.
Judith Tanate, DSWD-6 Disaster Response Management Division chief, is coordinating with the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) to ensure sufficient supply for Western Visayas.
