CAMP RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – Police seized suspected shabu worth P34,000 from two drug pushers in a buy-bust operation in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte on August 28.
The identities of the suspects – an adult and a minor – were temporarily withheld pending the identification and arrest of their contacts and suppliers, Police Regional Office-13 Regional Public Information Office (RPIO) chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said.
Seized from the suspects were five sachets of shabu weighing around five grams and valued at P34,000, the P1,000 buy-bust money, drug paraphernalia, and a Taurus 9mm pistol with 14 bullets.
The adult suspect is under the custody of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit-13 and faces charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, Commission on Elections gun ban, and Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (disobedience to a person of authority).
The minor suspect was turned over to the Buenavista police station for proper disposition and further investigation.
PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft ordered all field units in the Cagara region to intensify the campaign against illegal drugs.
“The arrest of these new suspects is another reminder to everyone that PNP-Caraga is committed to our war against the drug menace in the region,” Kraft said.
Kraft also ordered that the gun ban be strictly enforced as the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections are fast approaching.
