NLEX-SLEX Connector to collect toll on Aug. 8

Motorists using the NLEX-SLEX Connector have to pay toll starting Tuesday next week, Aug. 8, 2023.

The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has issued a Notice to Start Collection (NTSC) for the expressway’s recently opened stretch between Caloocan City (C3) and España Boulevard, Manila.

Starting on Aug. 8, motorists passing through the NLEX-SLEX Connector will pay P86 toll rates for Class 1 (cars and SUVs), P215 for Class 2 (minivans and buses), and P302 for Class 3 (large trucks and trailers).

Since it was first opened for the public last March, the NLEX-SLEX Connector Section 1 (Caloocan to España) provided toll-free passage to over 14,000 motorists daily.

Meanwhile, NLEX Corp., the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC)
unit that operates NLEX, SCTEX, and the NLEX-SLEX Connector, targets to complete Section 2 — España to Sta. Mesa — by fourth quarter of 2023.

The section will provide easier access to the University Belt and ease traffic congestion in the cities of Malabon, Navotas, Caloocan, and Valenzuela.

The NLEX-SLEX Connector provides a renewed mobility experience to motorists as MPTC ushers in a new era of redefining electronic tolling collection in the country,

MPTC sees the future as "barrier-free", removing traditional toll barriers. Barrier-free technology provides seamless and enhanced traffic flow since motorists no longer need to stop at the toll booths.

For safety reasons, motorists are only advised to slow down as they approach the toll plaza.

The construction of the NLEX-SLEX Connector has also improved surrounding areas.

It promoted the redevelopment of Magsaysay Boulevard, rehabilitation of the existing eastbound and westbound service roads, improvement of PNR railroad crossing, relocation of electric posts, decommissioning of the Magsaysay Flyover, and traffic signalization of the Magsaysay Boulevard intersection.

The NLEX-SLEX Connector is a Public-Private Partnership project approved by the NEDA–Investment Coordination Committee (NEDA-ICC) in 2015.
