MTRCB chair Lala Sotto on issuing notice to 'It's Showtime:' 'Don't take it personally'
Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chairperson Lala Sotto has shared her two cents on social media grumblings relating to the summons they sent to producers of the noontime show "It's Showtime" recently.
In an interview with Cristy Fermin, Lala maintained they acted simply based on complaints. But they did not do so sans complete information. There was a long process involved.
More than anything, Lala maintained they practice the spirit of fairness.
"Di lahat pinapalaki or binibigyan ng notice," she said.
"Ang programang 'It's Showtime,' I hope they don't take it personally lalo na yung kanilang mga supporters," Lala related.
So, naiintindihan ko po yan. That is why I believe the board has been very tolerant. May nip slip pa. Hindi naman namin sila binigyan ng notice to appear para dyan because like I've said I've been very tolerant, I've been very understanding and patience.
Note that in a memorandum, the MTRCB said the scene, which happened during the variety show’s “Isip Bata” segment that aired last July 25, is a violation of Section 3 (c) Presidential Decree No. 1986.
A quick look at the said scene via YouTube showed Ion offering cake icing to Vice using his finger in front of several children.
Lala stressed that the ABS-CBN show is Rated PG (Parental Guidance).
“It is a live noontime, variety show, that is automatically Rated PG,” she said, adding that there were kids physically present when it happened, and the same with the young viewers watching without their parents.
Lala also reacted to the urging of some netizens for the MTRCB to also summon producers of "E.A.T.," accusing one of its hosts, none other than her father himself, former senator Tito Sotto, of alleged misconduct.
They specifically cited Tito's effort to shower her wife, Helen Gamboa, with kisses during "E.A.T.'s" National Dabarkads Day celebration last Saturday.
Lala sees nothing wrong with it.
They have been married for 55 years now,” she said. “Yung mga lambingan nilang ganyan, simula pa nung may show sila... kapag naggi-guest ang mommy sa 'Iskul Bukol,' at yung dating 'Eat Bulaga!,' all through the years, ginagawa po talaga nila yan.
Wala pong dahilan para ipatawag ang E.A.T. dahil hindi po sila deserving of a ‘notice to appear.’"
