MIAA: No flight disruption during Aug. 4 crash, rescue exercises at NAIA
A full-scale Crash and Rescue Exercise (CREX) will be conducted by the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Friday, Aug. 4, at the General Aviation Area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
In a statement, MIAA said the exercise will simulate an aircraft crash incident with MIAA emergency services department and nearby hospitals and fire stations as secondary responders.
MIAA Officer-in-Charge Bryan Co said the exercise is the first for the agency and will include the management and handling of relatives of victims of the aircraft accident.
"MIAA is set to test the readiness of personnel involved on how to respond to an aircraft crash incident to be held within the airside premises of NAIA," said Co.
The exercise is in compliance with the requirement of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for members to conduct bi-annually, a full-scale airport emergency exercise and a table-top exercise during the intervening year.
Co said these are done to ensure that airport authorities are attuned to the latest recommendations under the ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (ICAO-SARPS) manuals.
Co assuredthat there will be no flight disruptions during the exercises and normal operations will continue smoothly.
