Laguna jail guard shot dead

SANTA CRUZ, Laguna â€“ A Laguna Provincial Jail guard was gunned down by an inmate on Wednesday morning, August 2. Police identified the victim as Jonathan Buenviaje, 50. Investigation said the victim was working at Dormitory 1 when the suspect, Romnick Estadilla, 32, approached him from behind and grabbed his service firearm. Estadilla shot the victim several times but another jail guard retaliated and wounded the suspect. The victim and the suspect were taken to the Laguna Provincial Hospital where Buenviaje was declared dead on arrival. Police are still investigating the incident.
