K-pop star Taeyeon feels the ‘Odd of Love’ in Manila: ‘I’m very happy’

K-pop star Taeyeon impressed fans and was overwhelmed by their cheers and screams as she held her second solo concert in Manila.

The singer, who is also a member of K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation, held her “The Odd of Love” in Manila show on July 30 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The concert marked her return for a solo show in Manila in more than four years since holding her “‘s…Taeyeon Concert” in Manila in December 2018 at the New Frontier Theater.

Last April, Taeyeon performed in a K-pop show in Manila together with other artists and told fans, “Your reaction is so hot that it seems that I need to come back for a solo con [concert].”

It came true through “The Odd of Love” and this time, Taeyeon held her solo concert in a bigger venue with a bigger audience.

Opening with “Invu,” Taeyeon also performed “Can’t Control Myself,” “”Some Nights,” “Set Myself On Fire,” “Siren,” “Cold As Hell,” “Heart” and “Toddler.”

As the audience chanted “Kim Taeyeon!,” she commented, “It’s my first time seeing Sones [Girls’ Generation fans] enjoying my concert so much.”

“I really did so well so I could keep my promise that I made a few months ago. Until the last moment that I went here, I kept thinking, what would happen if I couldn’t go to Manila to have this concert? Because there could be so many reasons that could happen or that would stop this concert without my intentions. But finally I am here to perform in front of you. I’m very happy,” said Taeyeon.

She added, “Yesterday [July 29], I noticed that there was heavy rain. So I was a little worried that our concert would be a little wet, a little humid  but I think it is going well.”

The continuous rains in Metro Manila did not deter fans from going to Taeyeon’s concert.

Taeyeon continued her set, performing “Weekend,” “No Love Again,” “You Better Not,” “Stress,” “Playlist,” “What Do I Call You,” “To the moon,” “Wildfire,” “My Tragedy,” “Better Babe,” “Four Seasons,” “Timeless,” “Fine,” “I” and “Time Lapse.”

Since her 2018 concert in Manila, Taeyeon has released the studio albums “Purpose” and “Invu,” and the mini-album “What Do I Call You.”

Taeyeon noted the audience’s reactions during the show.

“I really like these people who are very expressive. I really have so much energy because I see you expressing your love for me. We were having a rehearsal a while ago and I suddenly felt lonely. Because I noticed our staff, team, members of the band, our dancers, they were all so eager at their work. And I had this realization that I really had to do my work also at my best and hardest way but I just suddenly felt lonely,” she narrated.

She added, “Now I realized that maybe I felt really lonely a while ago because the venue, this place, was empty [during rehearsal]. I think that was the reason why I felt lonely but now seeing you all here, I really felt thankful and regret why I had such thought.”

“Even yesterday we arrived here in Manila a little year early so I had quite a time. So I had a lot of thoughts in my mind. That’s what happens to me when I’m alone for a long time. I just had so many thoughts. I don’t think it’s quite good. But, in conclusion, the reason why I’m sharing this, that means I really wanted to see you,” she said.

During the concert, Taeyeon held banners made by fans and posed for photos and waved a purple cloth that was a part of a fan project.

“I like purple color,” she said. “I think because you guys are my fans, that is why you sing so well. I really wonder why you sing the hardest part.”

She added, “I think you still have many songs that you want to listen to tonight. But we have come to this end of the performance. The songs that you weren’t able to listen to tonight, I will prepare them for the next time. I hope you guys still invite me to Manila. I promise.”

“I am very thankful that we all enjoyed today,” she said.

For the encore performance, Taeyeon sang “Spark” and “Ending Credits.”

Taeyeon’s “The Odd of Love” in Manila was presented by DNM Entertainment.
