6,000 doses of bivalent Covid vaccines administered in Western Visayas
CEBU CITY – More than 6,000 doses of bivalent Covid-19 vaccine have already been administered in Central Visayas.
Most of the 6,402 doses of bivalent vaccines were given to vulnerable population.
Dr. Joan Antonette Albito, Medical Officer III of the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-7), said most individuals who availed of the vaccine were healthcare workers or those belonging to the A1 group.
A total of 3,413 doses were given to the A1 population and 158 for the A2 or senior citizens.
Central Visayas has received 14,100 doses that the DOH-7 plans to utilize by the end of August.
The country has received a total of 390,000 doses as donation from Lithuania. Over 125,000 doses of the vaccine have been utilized.
DOH-7 Director Anthony Cu reminded the public of the importance of receiving a booster shot.
“It’s important that they get the booster shot because it decreases the chances of severe of Covid-19. As you can see, during the time that there was no vaccine yet, the chances of getting severe Covid was higher in such a way that you have to be hospitalized and require oxygen,” Cu said in a press briefing on Thursday, August 3.
Cu said now that most of the population are already vaccinated, most Covid cases are already mild.
“As we all know, after most of the population was vaccinated…there are still a lot who acquire Covid but most of them can be treated at their own homes,” said Cu.
