Zubiri, Cayetano file reso seeking Senate probe into viral road rage
Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri and Senator Pia Cayetano have filed a joint resolution seeking a Senate investigation into the viral road rage incident involving a retired police officer against a cyclist in Quezon City.
Cayetano, a cyclist herself, backed a Senate investigation into the incident following Sen. Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada’s appeal for the upper chamber to probe the actions of Wilfredo Gonzales, the retired officer in question.
Zubiri also agreed to the call saying there is a “need to prohibit this type of road rage in our society.”
“I’m sure there’s this kind of road rage every day, and we should teach these people a lesson by filing the appropriate charges against them,” he pointed out.
In filing Senate Resolution No. 763, the senators took note of reports the cyclist was coerced to sign a settlement agreement with Gonzales and was even forced to pay P500 to cover for the alleged cost of damage to the red sedan driven by Gonzales.
It was also later reported that Gonzales was dismissed from service due to grave misconduct.
“This is a serious case involving public order and safety, which cannot simply be settled amicably and swept under the rug,” the resolution stated.
The resolution also seeks to take up the safety of cyclists on the road and the issue of road sharing, which the senators said, is still a concept that remains ignored by many Filipino motorists.
