The mayor first visited the Legarda Elementary School in Sampaloc, Manila, where she inspected every classroom and the library.

She said 5,139 students from kindergarten to Grade 6 were enrolled at the school that has earned several academic awards over the years.

The local government provided bags and school supplies to the students.

Lacuna-Pangan also said that physical education (P.E.) uniforms will also be given in the following weeks.

"Alam ko bawat isa sa inyo ay may mga pangarap kaya pagbutihin natin ang pag-aaral nitong unang araw ng pagbabalik eskuwela. Pilitin nating abutin ang ating mga pangarap hindi lang para sa ating sarili, kundi para sa ating mga magulang, komunidad, at sa ating bansa. Bansang makabata, batang makabansa (I know each of you has dreams. Let's study hard on this first day of school. Let's strive to reach our dreams not only for ourselves but for our parents, community, and our country. Bansang makabata, batang makabansa)," she said.

The local chief executive also inspected the ongoing constructions of the Manila Science High School in Ermita and Rosauro Almario Elementary School in Tondo.

Manila Public Information Office (PIO) said that Manila High School was 95 percent done, while Almario Elementary School was 89.50 percent complete.
