Manila LGU warns public vs fake social media accounts impersonating local officials
The Manila local government warned the public against social media accounts on Facebook that seek to impersonate its officials.
On Monday, Aug. 28, Manila LGU Spokesperson Princess Abante said, "We ask the public to help report this unauthorized social media account impersonating the city mayor."
She said the warning was issued after receiving reports that social media accounts under the name of City Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto are being used to post fake announcements.
The city government advised the public to beware of these fake accounts and to immediately report them for violations of community standards and impersonation policy.
Abante said the mayor's Facebook account was created to provide the public, especially the residents of Manila whom she serves, accurate and updated information on the activities and programs of her administration.
She said that Lacuna-Pangan's official Facebook account is "Dra. Honey Lacuna," but residents can also find legitimate information under the LGU account "Manila Public Information Office."
Both accounts stream "The Capital Report" where the mayor discusses all the major activities and programs undertaken by the city government.
