PINUNO Party-list Rep. Howard Guintu attempted to put into words on Tuesday night, Aug. 29 the great loss that Filipinos feel over the passing of veteran broadcast journalist Mike Enriquez.
"Ang pagpanaw ni Mike Enriquez, isa sa mga haligi ng radyo at telebisyon, ay isang malaking kawalan sa larangan ng pagbabalita at sa industriya ng broadcast media (The passing of Mike Enriquez, an institution in the world of radio and television, is a huge loss in the field of journalism and the broadcast media industry)," Guintu said in a statement.
"Mike Enriquez was a household name with voice that was larger than life. For many, his voice was synomous with trustworthy news, and though we would no longer hear his iconic voice over the airwaves, his legacy as a broadcast journalist will live on and forever be immortalized in the annals of Philippine journalism," said the congressman.
Guintu further said: "Ipinapaabot ko ang aking pakikiramay sa lahat ng kanyang mga naulila. Sa kanyang pamilya, kaibigan, katrabaho, at mga mahal sa buhay (I send my condolences to all that he left behind. His family, friends, workmates, and loved ones)."
Enriquez, 71, was the former longtime anchor of the popular news program, 24 Oras of GMA-7.
Guintu is a vice chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development.
