
A 4.5-magnitude earthquake hit Antique on Tuesday evening, Aug. 29, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the earthquake, which struck at 9:17 p.m., had its epicenter 21 kilometers (km) southwest of Anini-y, Antique.
It occurred at a shallow depth of 36 km beneath the epicenter.
Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity III (weak) in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.
Its instruments also recorded the tremor at Intensity III in Anini-y, Antique; Intensity II (slightly felt) in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique; and Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in Valderrama, Antique, and Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
However, it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
