- Based on the latest data from the Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count as of Aug. 29, 9:05 a.m., the total number of registered students for SY 2023-2024 has reached 22,917,725.
- DepEd anticipates more late enrollees to enroll.
- The enrollment, DepEd said, is a "running number."
- DepEd added the final count will only be "established once all reports are in."
While the recorded enrollment on the first day of classes on Tuesday, Aug. 29, was relatively lower compared to the data provided last school year, the Department of Education (DepEd) expressed confidence that the enrollment numbers would increase in the coming days and weeks.

“Many enroll during the first week and even weeks after,” DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Michael Poa told reporters in a Viber message. “Let’s observe this week,” he added.
Furthermore, Poa explained that enrollment is required only for Kinder, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners, which is why an early registration process was in place for them.
Students in other grade levels, Poa said, were already considered “pre-registered.”
“Enrollment is really just a confirmation of their registered status,” Poa said. “So, they usually do it on their first day,” he added.
Latest enrollment data
Based on the latest data from the Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count as of Aug. 29, 9:05 a.m., the total number of registered students for SY 2023-2024 has reached 22,917,725.

Region IV-A has the highest number of enrollees with 3,488,180; followed by Region III with 2,626,684, and the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,497,178.
The data, DepEd said, included public and private schools as well as State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) that offer basic education. Also included in this data is the number of enrollees in Philippine schools overseas.
However, the data mentioned does not include enrollment in the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
At the beginning of classes for SY 2022-2023 on August 22 last year, DepEd recorded a total of 28,035,042 enrolled learners in public and private schools nationwide.

Enrollment is a ‘running number’
DepEd Assistant Secretary Francis Cesar Bringas explained that DepEd anticipates more late enrollees to enroll.
“The enrolment is a running number kasi continuous ang uploading ng mg schools when they access the LIS [Learner Information System],” Bringas told reporters in a Viber message.
“The final count will only be established once all reports are in,” Bringas explained. “That will take around two weeks and the ongoing late enrolment contributes to longer time of having the final number,” he added.
