Folayang, a former two-time ONE Lightweight World Championship, returns to the Circle when he takes on Amir Khan in a rematch at ONE Fight Night 14: Stamp vs. Ham inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Sept. 30.
Though they don’t represent the same gym anymore – Folayang formed Lions Nation MMA and Adiwang joined Hiit Studio in Bali, Indonesia – “Thunder Kid” will always root for his manong from afar.
“I’m happy that he gets to continue fighting entering this rematch against Amir Khan,” Adiwang said.
“He already knows Amir Khan. He felt his power, he knows his techniques, and he has already scored a win over him before. So for sure, this time, he’ll work even better to repeat that win.”
There’s no disputing the fact that the past couple of years have been tough for the Filipino legend when it comes to mixed martial arts. After all, he lost five MMA matches in a row.
For Adiwang, a change of scenery plus Folayang’s unwavering fire to compete are the main reasons why he believes that a change of fortune is due for “Landslide.”
“Honestly, the question in everyone’s mind is does Eduard still have it with his age? But I believe that his work ethic is still there, he’s always training, and his fighter’s mentality is unbreakable,” he said.
“As long as his fighter’s mentality is still there, that will be his main weapon in this fight.”
Adiwang will also make his return to ONE Championship after suffering an ACL injury. He faces Adrian “Papua Badboy” Mattheis at ONE Friday Fights 34: Rodtang vs. Superlek on September 22 at Bangkok, Thailand’s Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.
