2 arrested on first day of election gun ban in Las Piñas
Two men were arrested for violating the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election (BSKE).
Southern Police District (SPD) Director Brig. Gen. Roderick Mariano said the arrested suspects were identified as Felizardo Almarez,25 and Jameson Argabio, 32.
Mariano said the city police chief, Col. Jaime Santos, reported that the suspects were arrested at around 12:50 a.m. in front of Dona Julita along Naga Road, Pulanglupa Dos, on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
According to the police report, members of the Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit (TMRU) of the Las Piñas police were conducting “Oplan Sita” and flagged down the suspects on board a motorcycle for not wearing safety helmets.
The report showed that the suspects, instead of stopping, fled which led to a brief chase.
The police said the suspects ,when cornered by lawmen, yielded a .38 caliber revolver, a switch blade, bolt cutter, and surgical scissor.
The SPD chief said the suspects failed to show any documents for the firearms and were immediately brought to the Las Piñas custodial facility for detention.
Mariano said the suspects were charged for illegal possession of firearms and bladed weapon in relation to the Omnibus Election Code.
