LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – A reelectionist barangay captain was shot dead by a lone gunman after filing his of Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) for the October 29 barangay elections in Libon, Albay on Monday, August 28.
Police identified the victim as Barangay San Jose Captain Alex Repato who filed his CoC at around 11 a.m.
Repato was shot around 5 p.m. in his residence in Barangay San Jose.
Libon Vice Mayor Markgregor Edward Sayson condemned the killing of Repato in a Facebook post.
“I strongly condemn the Killing of Punong Barangay Alex Repato of Barangay San Jose! This senseless act has no place in our Society! We call for peace and Justice in Libon!” Sayson said.
Repato was killed five days after a barangay official in Libon and her husband were gunned down by unidentified gunmen.
Victims were identified as Relly Saraba Mata, councilor of Barangay Nogpo and her husband, Alfredo.
