TACLOBAN CITY – The Police Regional Office-8 (Eastern Visayas) said they are ready for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in October during the launching of simultaneous checkpoints in the region on Monday, August 28.

Police Brig. Gen. Vincent Calonaga, PRO-8 director, assured strict enforcement of the election gun ban until November 29.
"All permits to carry firearms outside of residence are considered canceled except for those who have a certificate of authorization from the Comelec," Calonaga said.
He added that police are allowed to conduct a visual search on all vehicles and they have issued regulations to be followed.
"Motorists should not be afraid because we are only ensuring the people's safety during this election period," Calonaga said.
Comelec-8 Director Jose "Nick" Mendros said that they are expecting candidates to take advantage of the holiday on Monday (National Heroes’ Day) to start filing their Certificates of Candidacy (CoCs).
Filing of CoCs will be until September 2 while the campaign period is set from August 28 to November 29.
