Close to 8,000 persons were affected by bad weather due to typhoon “Goring”, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Monday, August 28.

Based on the latest situational report of the NDRRMC, a total of 2,302 families composed of 7,919 individuals were affected in 93 barangays in Ilocos Sur in Region 1; Cagayan, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya in Region 2; Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas in Region 4A; Occidental Mindoro in Region 4B; Negros Occidental in Region 6; and Abra and Apayao in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Of the number, there were 538 families or 1,948 individuals who were temporarily staying at 53 evacuation centers.
Meanwhile, 107 families or 359 individuals were being assisted by the NDRRMC outside the evacuation centers.
Flooding was recorded in 85 areas in the affected provinces while electric supply was interrupted in 26 cities and municipalities.
There were four rain-induced landslides that occurred due to Goring although the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said no typhoon-related casualty has been recorded so far.
Two landslides were reported in Ilocos Sur – one each in Brgy. Banglayan, Narvacan town and in Brgy. Saprina, Sinait town. In Brgy. Daan Pare, Orion, Bataan, a landslide caused a fence of a subdivision to collapse which affected 11 families composed of 30 individuals. A community at the riverside in Brgy. San Francisco, General Trias, Cavite was also affected by a landslide.
The NDRRMC said a total of P2.37 million worth of food, non-food items, and funds were on standby and ready for distribution to the typhoon victims.
