JV Ejercito: Ex-cop in viral road rage incident should be charged for grave threat, his licenses revoked
Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito on Monday, August 28 said the former cop who became viral on social media after being caught physically assaulting an unarmed cyclist should be criminally charged for grave threat.

A cyclist himself, Ejercito condemned the actions of Wilfredo Gonzales, a retired police officer, who was identified with the help of the Manila Police District (MPD) and Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
The viral video showed Gonzales, slapping and subsequently brandishing his firearm against the a cyclist. The incident, which happened near Welcome Rotonda in Quezon City happened on August 8.
The senator vowed to make sure that the former policeman would be made to face appropriate charges even though both parties have reportedly settled the matter amicably.
“What happened between the ex-policeman and the cyclist settlement is between them. But what is unforgivable is drawing a gun against a helpless, unarmed cyclist,” Ejercito said.
“The ex-cop should still be charged for grave threats, but unfortunately the cyclist seem to have been intimidated,” he said.
Ejercito also said the Land Transportation Office (LTO) should revoke Gonzales' driver’s license.
Likewise, the Philippine National Police (PNP) should cancel his license to own firearms, license to own and possess firearms (LTOPF) and permit to carry firearm outside of residence (PTCFOR).
“If he is still connected with government, he should be charged administratively for conduct unbecoming,” the lawmaker said.
“Hindi dapat makalusot mga sigang pulis! Hindi na yan uso! Police officers who bully should not be allowed to go scot free! That's no longer the trend)! As a cyclist, I will not let this pass,” he said.
“Dapat makasuhan din ito sa korte at ipakulong nang hindi na ito tularan! Hindi ka dapat palagpasin! (He should face criminal charges before the courts and be jailed so that other people will not imitate what he did! You should be allowed to go free),” he said.
“The sad part is that instead of being remorseful and sorry, Mr. Gonzales seemed arrogant in his press conference,” Ejercito pointed out, referring to the ex-cop’s press conference at Camp Karingal held yesterday, Sunday, August 27.
