Don't bring a crowd: Comelec advises BSKE aspirants to avoid 'premature' campaigning
Aspirants for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) were urged not to bring a crowd when they file their Certificate of Candidacy (COC).

The reminder came after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) observed some aspirants bringing their supporters on the first day of COC filing on Monday, Aug. 28.
"So far, wala pa pero meron ilan na mga sumama, sinasamahan ang mga kandidato ng mga sumusuporta sa kanila o sabihin na natin, grupo-grupo. Nakikita natin iyan (So far, there's none yet, but there are a few who have joined, accompanying the candidates supported by them or let's say, groups. We can see that),” said Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia during an interview in Quezon City.
While such practice is not against the rules, Garcia reminded the aspirants to be mindful of engaging in premature campaigning. "Pero sana, pagkatapos nilang manggaling sa bawat lugar kung saan sila nagfile ng kanilang candidacy, sana umuwi muna sa bahay (But hopefully, after they come from each place where they filed their candidacy, they should go home first),” he added.
Garcia told aspirants that voters would not remember them if they campaigned after filing their COCs. "Maaalala kayo ng botante mula Oct. 19 hanggang 28, iyon ang panahon kung saan kailangan ninyong magkampanya (Voters will remember you from Oct. 19 to 28, that's the period when you need to campaign),” he added.
While Comelec did not anticipate the significant number of aspirants, Garcia noted that the first day of COC filing was generally "smooth and peaceful."
