ILOILO CITY – The start of the election period in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on Monday, August 28, in Western Visayas was generally peaceful, the Police Regional Office-6 said.

Police recorded no arrests as checkpoints were launched in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
Dennis Ausan, Commission on Elections-6 chief, said in a press conference on Monday that the PRO-6, the 3rd Infantry Division (ID) of the Philippine Army, and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-6 are ensuring security protocols for the election period that ends on October 30.
Police Brig. Gen. Sidney Villaflor, PRO-6 director, said they are beefing up checkpoints.
Major Gen. Marion Sison, 3rd ID commander, said they are focused on hinterland barangays in Panay and Negros Islands where the New People’s Army (NPA) is present.
Commodore Arnaldo Lim, PCG-6 commander, said they are focused on seaports and wharves across the region.
