BACOLOD CITY – Commanders of the 10 police stations here have increased police visibility in their jurisdictions as the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) for this year’s Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) started on Monday, August 28.
Police Lt. Col. Ronnie Brillo, deputy director for operations of the Bacolod City police, said that Police Assistance Desks (PAD) and police personnel were deployed in a popular mall here to secure the filing of COCs.
Personnel from the Traffic Enforcement Unit were also deployed man traffic at the shopping mall, he added.
Brillo said that policemen were advised to conduct the standard protocol on checkpoints as these and the gun ban will be implemented by the Commission on Elections starting August 28.
He said that the Comelec will observe and inspect if policemen abide by proper checkpoint protocols. “This is to ensure that the activities of the motorists will not be hampered, as policemen are only allowed to conduct plain view,” he added.
Brillo said that station commanders were also directed to conduct “recorida” or information campaign to inform the public about the Comelec gun ban.
He stressed that carrying of firearms is strictly prohibited, except for uniformed men.
