LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Albay Rep. Fernando “Didi” Cabredo has appealed to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to investigate the murders of barangay officials in the municipality of Libon, this province.

In a statement Monday night, Cabredo and the people of Libon pleaded to the President to act on the "senseless and escalating killings" in Libon, the latest of which was that of a barangay captain who was shot dead in his residence after filing his Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) in the morning.
“President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., we urgently plead for your intervention in the senseless and escalating killings in Libon. Despite efforts to prevent such crimes, the killings continue, including recent victims such as Barangay Captain Alex Repato, Barangay Councilor Reliosa Mata, Barangay Captain Oscar Maronilla, and Barangay Kagawad Salvador Olivares," Cabredo said.
"We implore you, as the protector of the Filipino people, to prioritize an urgent investigation and restore peace in Libon. Our last resort is to seek your attention, recognizing authority to bring an end to this violence. We urge your prompt action to ensure the safety and security of the people of Libon," he added.
Reliosa and her husband was shot to death by still unidentified assailants a few weeks ago.
Maronilla of Barangay San Pascual was ambushed while onboard a "habal-habal" or motorcycle taxi.
Cabredo said that killings in Libon have been decades-long and mostly are unresolved.
"I am really appealing kay PBBM na magkaroon ng imbestigasyon dahil marami ng pinatay sa Libon. Lalaki, babae, may nagtitinda lang, may estudyante na pinatay. Gusto na naming matapos ito at ayaw ko ng may sumunod pa kay Kapitan Alex Repato. Hindi ko alam kung sa pulitika, extra-judicial killings o kung ano man," Cabredo said.
