Crime volume went down by 6.19 percent since January this year compared to the same period in 2022, the Philippine National Police (PNP) disclosed on Sunday, Aug. 27.
PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. said the period covers Jan. 1 to Aug. 23 based on the Crime Research Analysis Center (CRAC) of the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM).
He said the decrease was also recorded by 8.74 percent for the Index Crimes which comprises of theft, rape, physical injury, robbery, murder, carnapping (motorcycle), carnapping (vehicle), and homicide.
Carnapping of vehicles registered the most number of reduction with 31.98 percent, followed by physical injury with 15.87 percent decrease and rape with 14.66 percent decrease.
Theft recorded a 5.03 percent reduction, robbery with 6.36 percent decrease, murder with 2.07 percent decrease, carnapping of motorcycles with 3.84 percent reduction and and homicide by 0.73 percent.
